Navigating Insurance

 

Dr. Lou is an in-network provider for Medicare, Health Plan of San Mateo (HPSM), and San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS). She also accepts certain Aetna insurance plans through Headway.

For all other insurance plans, Dr. Lou is considered an out-of-network provider. Patients with out-of-network benefits may be eligible for reimbursement for a portion of the cost of treatment. Dr. Lou can provide a superbill or submit out-of-network claims on the patient’s behalf.

Many PPO plans offer out-of-network mental health benefits after the applicable deductible has been met. Coverage and reimbursement vary by plan, and patients are encouraged to verify their specific benefits with their insurance company. Dr. Smith is happy to assist patients in understanding and navigating the reimbursement process.

Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) funds may generally be used to pay for psychotherapy services.
