Psychotherapy
The principle aim of psychotherapy is not to transport one to an impossible state of happiness, but to help (the patient) acquire steadfastness and patience in the face of suffering.
- Carl Jung
Dr. Lou provides depth-oriented psychotherapy that supports individuals, couples, and family in their growth from psychological insight to transformation. This takes place within the context of a living therapeutic relationship that is intended to cultivate conditions in which they may become better able to make sense of and integrate their inner conflicts, emotions, and dilemmas that lie underneath their suffering.
The process of working through human struggles is a courageous and at times painful and messy process. Dr. Lou offers her professional expertise and genuine respect in guiding people to navigate their own unique path. Most often, emerging from the tender and courageous co-exploration, they begin to move toward increasing self-awareness, greater fulfillment, and more freedom to simply be their true selves.
Within this context, issues related to anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, emotional conflicts, life transitions, challenges related to illness and aging, unresolved past trauma, psychosis, cross-cultural challenges, and soul suffering may be explored.
The challenges of being human and relating to others in the world, though expressed somewhat differently for children, adolescents, and adults, are universal challenges that exist throughout the human lifespan. All humans, all of us, are more or less engaged in these endeavors. Psychotherapy is a special and even sacred context in which these important human experiences are explored and enriched within the context of the very real encounter between the therapist and the person who enters the process.
